For once, I was planning to stay, but God...

For most of my life, summer has meant short term missions trips. My love of people, different cultures, traveling, and serving the Lord work together for God's glory. Growing up in Calvary Church, I've heard the message. And I always planned to go, but I was willing to stay. Often that meant I got to go and serve the Lord in many ways. He has done some wonderful things!

When the list for summer missions trips was released, I wanted to go on more than half of them! As I looked at calendars and tried to figure out which one I wanted to choose, I had to cross most of them off the list. I walked away from the idea of going on a summer missions trip. For the first time, I was planning to stay! Thankfully, my oldest daughter signed up for one of the local student trips and is getting to go on her first missions trip.

We put the training days on the calendar and headed to the first team training meeting. As we snuck in the back, because we were late, I began to realize that this wasn't a meeting for the student teams! We had "accidentally," more like providentially, showed up to the first adult team meeting. As we sat through the discussion on the attitudes and perspectives we are to have when on missions trips, I began to feel like the Lord was saying, "You are actually the one who was supposed to be at this meeting because you are to go this summer." Turns out, I'm supposed to go!

God worked out the details, and I'm now a part of the team headed to the Philippines to help run a basketball and volleyball camp. I was planning to stay, but God called me to go.

God is so much greater than we imagine, and His plan is always better than our plan. I am looking forward to all He is going to do this summer. Follow along here for more amazing God stories.
