Day 3

A day to recover! After a good night’s rest at our destination, OneLife Africa campus, Kabarack, we helped send-off the Calvary Church team that had just finished ministering to 94 Kenyan High School students. With much laughter and some tears, the camp posed for a team picture and then the Calvary Church team boarded a bus and left for the Masai Mara, their last stop before returning home. Gradually, the campers left by car, van, and on foot and the camp became quiet.

We met as a group with our Kenyan counterparts to talk about how we were going to conduct the “leadership summit” -- titled “Lead Right.” This leadership summit would be held with university students who would be arriving as early as Sunday afternoon and all the way through Monday morning. In the true style of all cross-cultural ministry trips, there were several unexpected “surprises” – some challenges and some blessings. After a good meeting, where we made several significant but beneficial changes to the schedule, we went to the 3rd floor (really the 4th floor for us as Kenyans count floors as ground floor, 1st floor, 2nd floor, 3rdfloor.) Here we opened all our supply suitcases and were relieved to find everything we had brought. The craft tables were set up and the room prepared for the daily routines that were to start on Monday.

In the late afternoon, Andrew and son Jonathan, took the team on a tour of Kabarack University (KU) where Andrew and Stephanie had some of the early years of their ministry. KU is a private Christian university, where approximately 3000 students attend. It was currently on semester break (which is why Lead Right is scheduled for this time.) A beautiful campus, conceived and built by one of Kenyan’s early presidents. This president had by highly influenced by one of Calvary’s Global Partners – the Barnetts. There is actually a tree planted there with plaque honoring them. Other Calvary Global Partners that have been influential in Kenya and here at Kabarack, where the Davis families. The Morrison Family was also well known here having worked at Moffitt University and Rift Valley Academy. It was truly humbling to know that we were standing on the shoulders of previous Global Partners who had been so effective in ministry and in shaping the nation of Kenya.

We then visited a tourist area where the equator runs through. We were able to stand in both the northern and southern hemispheres at the same time… not something you can say you do very often. We returned to the OneLife Africa campus and turned in a bit early as we all were still in need of another good night’s rest.
