Day 5

Today is the day the leadership summit starts! The day started like every other day with breakfast being cooked by “Boneface” our new Kenyan friend. He is a gentle servant who has cooked all our delicious meals, always with a smile on his face. Like so many of the Kenyans here at OneLife Africa campus, they believe totally in the vision of reaching Kenyans for Jesus and serve faithfully towards that end. Today’s breakfast was Scotch eggs – hard boiled eggs deep-fried in a sausage batter along with sweet potatoes. Delicious!

Our day started with our Kenyan co-leaders leading us in worship singing songs in Swahili and English. They are extremely talented and their voices blend beautifully. Then our friend Biden (Said BEE-DAN) led us in a devotion on Peter walking on water setting the stage nicely for tomorrow’s theme of the Resiliency of Peter. After a short break Tim presented the first lesson on the Passion of Paul – highlighting Paul’s Consistent Focus, Enduring Faith, and a Defined Future. As we talked about Paul’s commitment to the Gospel of the grace of God, the gospel was shared and the students were asked if they wanted to receive Christ or recommit their lives to Christ. Several students recommitted their lives and we thank God for that. The session started and ended with the attenders talking about what leadership skills and traits were important to them. Peggy Huber followed up with a testimony of her life in leadership. In another example of how the Spirit has been orchestrating events, Peggy’s life verse which she shared in her testimony is the same verse that Tim focused on in his session –
Acts 20:24
But I do not account my life
of any value nor as precious to myself,
if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus,
to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.

Just another example to us of God’s sovereignty and His intimate involvement in our time here. The university students were engaged and participated well in all the events of the morning.

After lunch Peggy and Margaret Williams lead the attenders in a session on Bible Study Skills. Looking at Paul’s visits to church’s in Acts, they set the stage for the rest of the week in their continuing studies of the book of I Thessalonians. The rest of the afternoon the students enjoyed doing the crafts that were brought, they learned how to play Quirkle and Cornhole and the room was full of chatter and laughter.

The team had a short respite in the late afternoon before dinner (which is at 7:30PM and early for Kenyans.) Another wonderful meal of Kenyan food that all enjoyed. After dinner, the worship team lead the group in a energetic time of worshipping our Lord, Kenyan style. Bedtime almost immediately followed!

Pray for the team and students, some have gotten a fever and we certainly don’t want it to spread. Kim and Peyton are a little under-the-weather but are managing to participate in most things. Pray for continued endurance as the pace is active to say the least. Pray for changed lives. The students are for the most part committed Christians but they are also quite motivated towards high achievement. Pray that they can become the people that God wants them to be instead of following their own path carved out by their own desires or family expectations.
