Greetings from the Philippines,
This morning, we started our day with the boys playing an exhibition basketball game against a local church team. We got to host the game at our Word of Life Camp and Zoe and I even got to try our hand at commentating throughout the game over the sound system. After a hard fought lose, the boys had small group time and reported having great conversations with the players about how Jesus has changed our teams’ lives and how the gospel can change their lives too. We have been incorporating 1 Timothy 4:7-8 into our small group time in order to transition from competition to focusing on a relationship with Jesus. This verse shows the kids that while athletics are of some importance, an everlasting relationship with the Lord has eternal value. We got to spend some quality team time together in the ocean, playing spikeball, and talking under the bungalow. At lunch Alex and Zoe got to experience the taste and texture of pig belly which they rated 3/10. After fueling up with lunch the team headed out to our first official volleyball tournament for the girls. The guys got to try their hand at commentating, Logan had some special interviews. In between playing times, members of our group were able to mix in with the players from the other teams in order to get to know them and their stories. Before playoffs, I was able to share my testimony with the tournament players which was followed by a WOL team member sharing the gospel. After the program, we again broke off into small groups to talk through what the kids had just heard and had the opportunity to do. In our team debrief many of the girls shared that they had meaningful conversations about what a personal relationship with the Lord would look like with the girls that they had gotten to know. While we got a 3rd runner up metal (out of four teams), we arrived back to the camp in high spirits after impactful conversations and party bus dancing songs. We rounded out our full day with team discussion, testimonies, prayer, and games of mafia with our native friends at the camp.
