This morning started with another delicious breakfast before we hit the road at 9:30am to visit a remote village of the Ilchamus people about 2 hours away from the OneLife campus. For context, their population is 44,000 people with only 5% Christian and is one of the few remaining unreached people groups in Kenya. Upon arrival, we were greeted with 8 ladies singing and dancing a traditional song for us. We all gathered together to hear the history of the village, especially from the pastor who explained how the school, church, and community all came to be. We were graciously gifted with handmade bracelets/necklaces at the end of our time. We then broke off into our 4 color teams (black, red, green, and white) to make some home visits to learn, encourage, and pray with the families. We saw how they live, their families, and heard their stories of God’s faithfulness in the midst of great hardship and poverty. It was a humbling and sobering time to experience what life is like in a remote village. The vegetation of the land was stunning! We walked about 5 miles total before reaching our bus to eat pre-packed peanut butter and jelly sandwiches as we headed back to campus. A few of us played volleyball before dinner and then we were able to debrief our day before heading to bed. We continued to see God’s beautiful creation, goodness, and faithfulness today which we are so thankful for.
Please pray that our eyes would be opened to see and love people through the lens of the gospel and that we would be attentive to how God is working through each of us as we continue to process last week at camp with the students we met. Pray that God would sustain us and give us the energy we will need for the days ahead.
