Day 7: Last Day in Country

Our time here has been full of great conversations, laughter, building trust with people and learning new things about God, ourselves and the world! God answered many of our prayers and YOUR prayers! He brought the perfect amount of students to camp, we had two girl students, we were able to immediately connect with the students, several students were very open and we were able to have really good conversations outside of camp!

God blessed us with a really sweet final day here. After having breakfast and devos together as a team we had a free afternoon. It was nice to have some time to explore, go shopping and drink coffee at our favorite cafe! Later in the afternoon all of the girls on the team + our global partner got coffee with one of the Afghan girls and her younger brother who we had met earlier in the week! Even though it was only our second time meeting her she bought each one of us a special gift. They are both such cute and sweet kids but you can clearly tell by their level of wisdom and maturity that their circumstances have forced them to grow up too quickly. Our hearts were sad saying goodbye after connecting so well with them but we are so thankful for our global partners long term work here and that she is not leaving and can continue to build relationships with them after we leave.

In the evening we had our Film Camp red carpet premier where students got to invite their friends and family to come to the university and watch the films they created throughout the week! It was so fun to see all our hard work come together! We had two judges who awarded the teams for different categories like Best Directed or Best Editing. We also did a People’s Choice award where everyone was able to vote on their favorite film!

After the premier our team + global partner went out for coffee with a few of the students and their friends. There was a lot of good conversation and many laughs and once again our hearts were sad to say goodbye to our friends. I have been constantly reminded on this trip why long term work is SO important. There is a time and place for short term work but you can only go so deep in one week and you can only build so much trust. There is such a need for people to go long term…to do the hard work of learning a new language or maybe more than one, to invest in deep friendships and to be lights in dark places. The harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few…join me in praying that the Lord of the harvest would send out more laborers into His harvest!
