Day 3 of Summer English Camp at the Haven went very well! Today, 39 campers learned about their new home state of Pennsylvania. Once students arrived by van or walking, we made a birthday line. Each child learned their birthdate in English, and then the whole camp lined up from January to December. We discovered many birthday twins including two campers that shared the same birthdate and same birth year! In English class, students learned vocabulary relating to Pennsylvania and learned facts about their new state including that Harrisburg is the capital of Pennsylvania, and many Amish people live in Lancaster. During craft time, the students finished their mosaic coasters and learned to draw several different farm animals. For lunch, the children had a delicious traditional Afghan lunch of chicken, rice, cucumbers, tomatoes, and lettuce. After lunch, the children enjoyed songs and a story about a Pennsylvania farm throughout the year. In the gym, students played a soccer tournament. They were very competitive as many of the campers enjoy soccer as their favorite sport! To finish the day, the whole camp played a game of would you rather where the campers ran across the room to decide would you rather have sun or snow, dogs or cats, French fries or mashed potatoes, and many other pairs. The campers are excited to come back tomorrow in order to learn about farm animals and then go to a real Pennsylvania farm!! Please pray for travel mercies tomorrow as we transport the children to camp and then to the farm. Continue to pray that the staff would be able to plant seeds in the lives of each of the campers in order for Jesus's name to be glorified.
